Prepare Your Pets for the 4th of July

Prepare Your Pets for the 4th of July
More pets go missing around the 4th of July than any other time of year and loud fireworks are primarily to blame. Those loud sounds can frighten pets and send them looking for a safe place – wherever it may be.
To keep your fur-kids safe, we recommend following these tips to prepare your pets for the 4th of July:
Keep pets at home – Taking your pet to unfamiliar places and being around loud noises such as fireworks can be terrifying for your pet. These scary incidents can greatly increase the chance of your pet becoming frightened and running away. Keep pets at home where they’re comfortable and have access to their “safe” spots.
Drown out the noise – Instead of your pet listening to the loud and scary booms outside, help drown out those sounds by closing windows and turning on music or the television.
Have 2 forms of identification for your pet – In case your pet gets scared and runs off, make sure they have 2 forms of identification – this helps increase the chances of your pet being returned to you should they get lost.
Have an ID tag on your pet’s collar and check to make sure all your contact information is up to date and correct.
Have your pet microchipped. A microchip is a quick, permanent way to give your pet an ID that won’t get lost. If your pet already has microchip, be sure to check with the company your pet’s microchip is registered with to make sure they have your current contact information. Our clinic uses HomeAgain microchips – visit HomeAgain Microchipping Facts to learn more about microchipping.
